Sounds like a really healthy stance to adopt. You get to play a game you’re interested in and are able to help promote the developer, while knowing you’re not going to be spending your free time playing something you’re obliged to finish. I look forward to reading those future reviews! 🙂

I would be up for a key if it was for a game I was actually really looking forward to. I’m not swearing off keys for good, but more along the lines of just accepting one’s for games that I know I’ll sink 10+ hours into easily. The game I accepted a key for was something I had interest in, but not overwhelmingly. I wanted to give it a try, but it wasn’t something I was jumping out of my seat to grab a system and buy immediately.

I know exactly what you mean. It’s nice being able to switch off from work and then pick something you feel like playing, rather than something you know you have to play because you’re up against a deadline.

Do you think you’d ever be open to receiving a review key again if it was for a release you were really interested in? Or is that it, no more free codes?

I received my first “free” key a few months back, and although the game was one I had an interest in, it didn’t spark enough in me to play continuously. It felt like a chore, and I decided rather quickly that I would ditch the guilt I was feeling, and not ask or take any more keys.

Like you, my game time consists of very few hours at night, and I really disliked feeling like I had to play that specific title and not something I genuinely looked forward to playing.
